Moss and Spy pays homage to YSL and the infamous Talitha Getty for Spring/Summer

When style icon Talitha Getty posed on a Marrakech rooftop in 1969 with the Atlas mountains behind her, draped in a multi-colored silk brocade robe and white boots, it was little surprise the woman who would become a muse to YSL would still be influencing fashion in 2009.

Moss and Spy is the latest designer to include a hint of Talitha and her friendship with YSL which has crept into its Spring/Summer.

"I think Talitha Getty embodied a late 60s early 70s glamour, a luxurious hippie look that has flourished ever since. Although Talitha was not known to everybody, all the fashion gurus of the late 20th and early 21st centuries have often written about her – especially via her association with YSL and her love of Marrakesh, which was a popular holiday spot for hippies in the late 1960s and has been a huge influence for artists over the years; the colours, the vibrancy and even the unique shapes of the buildings that remain today," said designer Lia Tsimos. "So the combination of all those styles and the relaxed lounge dresses, drop waists and wearable art is what has really influence much of the Spring/Summer collection."

Moss and Spy has captured some of the essence of Talitha with the bohemian chic of its summer collection; key fabrics include Sari influenced embroidered cottons, violet and green mixed with sensual neutral tones; ivory, oyster, stone, plus silver and gold.

Knitwear also features floral inspired designs with jacquard prints, large motif lace inserts, oversized and soft structured shirts in silk/cotton voile, floral vine prints on an oyster base; worn clinched at the waist pared with crisp cotton narrow pants in bronze or stone. Skirts are full and flirty in slim shantung prints with a small waist and fitted pussy bow, with styled satin blouses, or a pencil skirt for a slim silhouette paired with a floaty, loose-line shirt.

Lia spent several years living and studying in Paris and manages to bring a European elegance to everything she designs. She is also one of the rare designers who creates her own artwork for motifs. "I have designed many of the motifs myself and love the idea of wearable art. Growing up in the 70s I would love to see the ladies arrive for my mother’s dinner parties; with flowing lounge dresses, a folksie, garden party feel yet incredibly sophisticated. I wanted to create a relaxed feel, with dropped waists, streamlined bodies and lots of volume and fullness in the hems," said Lia.

Summer is all about high colour and solid blocked brightness, fused with a 70s Biba-feel with silk prints. Colours include fuchsia pink, orange, green and turquoise. Then, turn up the heat with retro style silk prints in floaty shapes with metallic hot pink/bronze lace and sexy silk satin wrap dresses, ombre shaded sequins sparkle in the party season’s micro tank dress. "If Talitha had survived she would be 68 this year, and I like to think she’d feel quite at home wearing Moss and Spy," said Lia.
